Indonesian nickel plants halt operations after deadly landslide

Four Chinese-owned nickel plants in the Morowali Industrial Park on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, have temporarily ceased production following a fatal landslide that caused casualties. This development is significant as the region is a major hub for nickel extraction and processing, vital to the global supply chain.

The halt was necessary to allow recovery and restoration work at the waste disposal site affected by the collapse. Morowali Industrial Park ranks among the largest nickel production centers, and this incident impacts raw material availability.

Operations are expected to resume soon once repair efforts conclude and safety measures are reinforced.
