Iran says it has laid new naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran said it laid additional naval mines during a nighttime operation on routes south of the Strait of Hormuz. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, reported this on the social media platform X.
Statement by the Iranian command
According to Zolfaghari, the mines were allegedly placed along routes he called “illegal.” The number of mines that Tehran claims were laid during the nighttime operation remains unknown.
As Anadolu Agency reports, Tehran maintains uncertainty over the minefields and says their exact locations are known only to Iranian forces.

Dispute with the United States
Zolfaghari also mocked U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to rename the waterway the “Trump Strait.” He said U.S. Central Command could only rename the strait using Photoshop, and likewise guide oil tankers through it.
The statement came amid a dispute between Tehran and Washington. U.S. Central Command had previously said that all naval mines on transit routes had been removed and called reports of tankers being blown up by mines disinformation. Trump also said that all mines in the strait had been removed and warned of a zero-tolerance policy toward new mine-laying.
