Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic and threatened to take harsh measures against any vessels attempting to violate the ban.
This is stated in a press release from the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to TRT Haber.
“Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic and warned that ships attempting to violate the ban will face a harsh response,” the statement said.
The IRGC statement noted that the ban applies to all vessels heading to or departing from ports associated with the “Israeli-American alliance,” regardless of their route.
It is also reported that this morning, three container ships from different countries attempted to pass through the strait via authorized corridors. However, following the intervention of the Iranian Navy, they were forced to change course and turn back.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that the U.S. administration’s claims that “the Strait of Hormuz is open” do not correspond to reality.
“Anyone who attempts to use the strait in defiance of the ban will face a harsh response,” the IRGC emphasized.
As a reminder, the United Kingdom will lead an international coalition to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. and French ships will join the operation, and some vessels may operate autonomously. Additionally, London has proposed holding a summit for more than 30 countries willing to ensure safe navigation.
The U.S. and Iran are in contact, but there are no negotiations.
