Ireland will share the results of its investigation into alumina exports to Russia with the EU
Ireland will submit the results of its investigation into exports of aluminum oxide, or alumina, to Russia, an aggressor state, to the European Commission. The investigation is being conducted by Ireland’s Department of Enterprise and Trade, according to “European Truth.”
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin made this announcement at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. According to him, the European Union has never imposed sanctions on aluminum oxide exports, and the Irish investigation is nearly complete.
The investigation specifically concerns shipments from the Aughinish Alumina plant, which is owned by the Russian group Rusal. Martin said that the investigation has not found any concrete or conclusive evidence that the alumina is being supplied to arms manufacturers in Russia.
At the same time, the Irish prime minister noted that there is also no conclusive evidence that this raw material is not reaching arms manufacturers. According to him, the trade in aluminum oxide is of strategic importance and affects supply chains in Europe. Ireland will cooperate with the European Commission on further addressing this issue, as it does not want the materials to end up in Russia. According to Martin, the company insists that its materials are not being supplied to arms manufacturers.
Three weeks ago, during Zelenskyy’s visit to Dublin, Martin reported that Ireland was already wrapping up its investigation into reports of alumina exports to Russia. This issue has also drawn the attention of the European Commission.
