Israel has eliminated the last of the top Hamas commanders involved in the attacks

Israel has stated that the target of the airstrike on Gaza City was Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip and head of the group’s military wing.

This was reported by The Times of Israel.

According to medical sources, the strike occurred on May 15 in the Rimal neighborhood and hit a residential building. At least three people are reported dead and about 20 wounded, but there is currently no information on whether al-Haddad was among them.

The Israeli military claims it attacked a safe house where the Hamas commander was staying and also struck a vehicle attempting to leave the area. According to their reports, three aircraft participated in the operation, dropping 13 bombs.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that they personally authorized the operation, calling al-Haddad one of the key organizers of attacks against Israel.

In a statement, the Israeli side accused him of murders, kidnappings, and attacks on Israeli military personnel and civilians, as well as of refusing to support a plan to disarm Hamas.

Al-Haddad became the de facto military leader of the group following the elimination of Muhammad Sinwar in 2025 and is considered the highest-ranking Hamas leader to be targeted since the ceasefire.

Earlier, the Israeli parliament (Knesset) passed a law establishing a special military tribunal by an overwhelming majority.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant progress in negotiations with Tehran, noting that as part of a potential agreement, Iran could transfer its highly enriched uranium to the United States.

At the same time, Trump once again repeated the threats he has been making in recent weeks: “If they agree, it’s over; if not, we’ll bomb them.”

Official Tehran refused to participate in the second round of peace talks with the United States, which were to take place in Islamabad.
