The K-League has banned matches at Pohang Steel Yard Stadium due to safety concerns
The Korean Professional Football League (K-League) has banned matches from being held at Pohang Steel Yard Stadium in Pohang until further notice due to safety concerns. The Pohang Steelers will not be able to host two K-League 1 home matches scheduled for August at this venue.
According to the Korea Herald, the decision was made following an incident during last Saturday’s match at the 36-year-old stadium. A piece of concrete fell from the ceiling and injured a fan. According to the Pohang Steelers, the fan suffered a minor injury to his arm, moved to another section, and watched the rest of the match. He did not go to a local hospital for further examination.

Matches against Bucheon 1995 on August 22 and Gangwon FC on August 30 were scheduled to take place at Pohang Steel Yard. The league asked Pohang Steelers to find another home stadium for these games, but the club was unable to do so. Ultimately, Pohang Steelers agreed to have the matches hosted by Bucheon 1995 and Gangwon, respectively.
The K-League stated that the stadium will not be able to host any matches until its safety is fully guaranteed following a thorough inspection. The league also intends to inspect other stadiums and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of spectators, players, and match officials. Earlier, Pohang Steelers announced that, for safety reasons, they would not host their Korean Cup Round of 16 match against Jinju Citizen FC, scheduled for next Wednesday.
