Callas Revealed Details of the EU's 21st Round of Sanctions Against Russia
European Union member states have agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia—the aggressor state—which imposes restrictions on its financial system, military-industrial complex, and energy sector. The package is scheduled to be finalized on July 23 via a written procedure, according to “European Truth,” citing a statement by EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
According to Kallas, 218 more individuals will be added to the sanctions list. The new restrictions will also apply to more than 100 banks and cryptocurrency operators, more than 40 vessels in the shadow fleet, as well as several oil refineries in Russia and Belarus.
Separately, the EU will add more than 50 companies from the military-industrial complex and key entities involved in the production of Russian long-range drones to the list. Kallas stated that these measures are a response to Russia’s relentless attacks on civilians, infrastructure, and cultural heritage sites.
“We are hitting Putin where it ‘hurts’ the most—by cutting off the financial lifelines he relies on to continue the war. And this is not the end of the sanctions—we are already working on the next ones,” Kallas said.
The package was agreed upon at the EU ambassador level after its adoption had been blocked by certain countries. Greece was the last country to stand in the way of the agreement.
