Cambodia calls for resolving disputes with Thailand — Anadolu Agency
In Türkiye, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, called for a fair and lasting settlement of disputes with Thailand. As reported by Anadolu Agency, he also stressed the need to respect the sovereign equality of states.
Border demarcation
According to Prak Sokhonn, the recent tensions and conflict between Cambodia and Thailand have seriously undermined trust between the countries. He called for the full implementation of agreements reached by the two neighboring states and for the prompt resumption of border survey and demarcation work through their Joint Boundary Commission.
The Cambodian minister said that more than 20,000 Cambodian civilians are still unable to return home. He also called for progress in resolving outstanding border issues.

Regarding the maritime dispute, Prak Sokhonn said that Cambodia had initiated compulsory conciliation proceedings under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. According to him, this happened after Thailand terminated the 2001 memorandum that governed the issue. He added that both countries could benefit from a fair and lasting settlement, and that Phnom Penh seeks relations with Bangkok based on peace, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Laos’ statements
Separately, Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh Phomvihane told the General Assembly that building trust must begin with a renewed commitment to inclusive multilateral cooperation, with the UN playing a central role.
He called the Palestinian issue a long-standing test of confidence in the multilateral system, expressing concern over the humanitarian catastrophe and reconstruction needs in Gaza. Phomvihane called for a fair and lasting peace that would guarantee Palestinians the right to self-determination through an independent State of Palestine. He also called for the immediate and unconditional lifting of unilateral coercive measures against Cuba and its removal from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.
