Trump’s nominee to lead the FDA to testify before the US Senate — The Hill
In the United States, President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Heidi Overton, is scheduled to testify on Thursday at a hearing of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. According to The Hill, the hearing on her confirmation is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. US Eastern Daylight Time.
The nominee
Overton serves as a White House adviser on domestic policy and is a preventive medicine physician. If confirmed, she will replace FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, who resigned in May.
During the hearing, Overton is expected to answer questions about vaccines, the medication abortion drug mifepristone, and the FDA’s future direction.

Senators’ positions
The committee’s chairman, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy, previously voiced concerns over Overton’s role in Trump’s initiative to reduce the childhood vaccination schedule. When her nomination was announced last month, he described such involvement as “almost disqualifying.”
Republican Senator Susan Collins has also criticized the FDA’s recent approach to drug approvals.
