Kim Min-seok Orders Creation of Group for Political Unity
Kim Min-seok, leader of South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party, has ordered the launch of a task force to strengthen political unity and expand cooperation with other parties. He announced this at a meeting of the party’s supreme council, The Korea Herald reports.
Dialogue with other parties
The task force will operate under Kim’s direct leadership and is intended to strengthen ties among political forces. According to him, the Democratic Party seeks to build an “unbreakable bridge of dialogue” with the main opposition People Power Party, as well as develop political solidarity with progressive and liberal parties.

The new body will be headed by Park Beom-gye, a four-term Democratic Party lawmaker. The decision has drawn attention to whether Kim will resume efforts to merge with the small Rebuilding Korea Party. A similar initiative under former Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae was not implemented.
Review of party elections
Kim Min-seok also announced the launch of a separate task force. It will examine issues raised during the recent Democratic Party leadership election and prepare recommendations for changes to the party’s electoral system. Its members will mainly be external experts.
