China and North Korea have agreed to strengthen strategic coordination

Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un agreed during talks in Pyongyang to further expand bilateral cooperation. The parties also stated their intention to strengthen strategic coordination and deepen cooperation on key issues of bilateral relations and regional security.

 

The meeting between the leaders of the two neighboring countries took place on June 8 at the Kumsusan Guest House in Pyongyang. In addition to Xi and Kim, high-ranking representatives of the party and state leadership of China and North Korea participated in the talks, including heads of foreign affairs and military agencies.

According to the agency, Kim Jong Un stated that Xi Jinping’s visit demonstrates the high level of relations between the two countries and reaffirms their commitment to developing friendship and cooperation.

“Our party, government, and people are delighted that the Chinese party, government, and people have achieved remarkable successes in building a modern socialist country… No matter how the situation changes, our party and government will fully support the policies and positions of the Chinese party and government regarding the protection of core interests based on the ‘One China’ principle,” said the North Korean leader

Xi, in turn, noted the achievements in the DPRK’s development and reaffirmed China’s unwavering commitment to strengthening traditional ties with its neighbor, developing bilateral cooperation, and coordinating with Pyongyang on key issues of mutual interest.

“During the talks, the two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues, strengthening strategic coordination and cooperation between the two countries, resolutely safeguarding the sovereignty, security, and interests of both nations, as well as jointly safeguarding peace and development in the region and the rest of the world,”, KCNA reports.

The publication adds that, following the talks, a satisfactory consensus was reached on all items on the agenda.
