China hands over samples from the far side of the Moon to the UN

On September 14, China officially handed over to the United Nations samples collected by the Chang’e-6 mission on the far side of the Moon. According to ECNS, these materials are planned to be permanently displayed at the UN Office in Vienna, Austria.

Chang’e-6 mission samples

ECNS calls the transferred materials the first samples in human history collected from the far side of the Moon. They were obtained by China’s Chang’e-6 lunar mission.

Ceremony organizers

The handover ceremony was jointly organized by the China National Space Administration, the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna, and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

More than 400 guests took part in the event. They included representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions who attended the lunar sample handover ceremony.
