China is furious over new U.S. sanctions against Russia — Bloomberg
China has sharply criticized a new U.S. law that calls for tougher sanctions against Russia and the extension of restrictions on Iran. Beijing has expressed dissatisfaction with the new U.S. sanctions.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that the country consistently opposes unilateral and so-called secondary sanctions.
According to him, Beijing does not support restrictions that lack United Nations authorization or a basis in international law.
“China will closely monitor Washington’s next steps and reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, development interests, and the legitimate rights of its companies,” the ministry spokesperson said.
The Chinese ministry also called for stable trade relations with the U.S. through dialogue and consultation.

As a reminder, on September 18, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a law imposing sanctions against Russia as an aggressor state.
Following the signing of the “hellish sanctions” bill, its practical implementation will become a key issue. In particular, the legislation allows for the imposition of tariffs of up to 100% on imports from countries that purchase significant volumes of Russian energy resources or facilitate the circumvention of sanctions.
Earlier, the U.S. imposed sanctions on the Iranian cryptocurrency exchange BitBank, which is controlled by sanctioned Iranian financier Babak Zanjani.
