China rejects US right to impose tariffs over Russian energy imports — The Hindu

As The Hindu International reports, China in Beijing on September 17 rejected the United States' use of extraterritorial jurisdiction to impose tariffs over purchases of Russian oil and gas.

China's position

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a media briefing that China's normal trade and economic cooperation with other countries should not be subject to interference or coercion by third parties.

According to him, China also opposes any actions that are not authorized by the UN Security Council.

The US House of Representatives passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctions on Russia and Iran Act of 2026.
