China urges Japan to earn trust through concrete actions — ECNS

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that Japan must earn the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community through concrete actions rather than statements. This was reported by ECNS, citing a regular briefing of China’s foreign ministry.

Response to Japan’s speech at the UN

Guo Jiakun’s comment came in response to statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at the UN General Assembly. She said that Japan had consistently contributed to the peace and prosperity of the international community as a peace-loving state adhering to an exclusively defense-oriented policy.

Takaichi also called it Japan’s mission to lead efforts to create a world free of nuclear weapons and urged the removal of provisions on enemy states from the UN Charter.

According to the Chinese diplomat, the international community pays more attention to Japan’s actions than to its words. He said that the current Japanese administration, in Beijing’s assessment, denies the history of aggression, glorifies Japan’s war crimes, and is taking steps toward rearmament and accelerating remilitarization.

Beijing’s position on the UN Charter

Guo also claimed that Japan seeks to abandon the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and revise its pacifist constitution. He called such steps a challenge to the postwar international order and a factor threatening peace and stability in the region.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that 2026 marks 81 years since the founding of the UN and 80 years since the start of the Tokyo Trial. According to him, Japan joined the UN after acknowledging the crimes of militarism and accepting the organization’s Charter in its entirety. He called the provisions on enemy states a mechanism intended to prevent fascism and militarism from once again threatening international peace and security.
