Chinese medics searched for a medicinal plant in Guyana’s Amazon forests — ECNS
Four members of the 21st Chinese medical team in Guyana spent nearly 17 hours in the Amazon rainforest searching for capadulla, a plant used in local traditional medicine. The expedition was part of a study of Guyana’s traditional medicinal resources, ECNS reports.
Journey to the collection site
The team left Guyana’s capital, Georgetown, at 5:00 together with a local guide. Paved roads gave way to muddy tracks, and the participants travelled through rain and potholes. They also had a flat tire during the journey.
After arriving at the designated area, the expedition participants observed capadulla’s natural habitat and documented its physical characteristics. The team returned at 22:00.

Research into the plant’s properties
Earlier, Chinese medics learned about capadulla while communicating with local herbal medicine specialists and brought the plant to China. At Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, its components were analyzed using molecular networking.
According to the outlet, this analysis created a scientific basis for further research into the plant’s potential medicinal value. The trip was also part of the team’s mission to develop exchanges in traditional medicine between China and Guyana beyond clinical assistance.
