North Korea plans to drastically expand its nuclear arsenal

North Korea announced its intention to strengthen its nuclear capabilities without restriction, declaring a policy of further expanding and modernizing them.

From June 20 to 22, North Korea held a plenary session of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, during which it reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its nuclear forces.

Pyongyang described the country’s nuclear status as the “foundation of military sovereignty” and claimed that its use is allegedly “the most appropriate and unique way” to respond to the international situation.

The DPRK leader outlined a number of priorities, including the continuous expansion of nuclear capabilities to “stay ahead of the world,” accelerating the construction of a 10,000-metric-ton-class strategic missile cruiser, strengthening the military presence along the border with South Korea, and establishing new naval bases and defense infrastructure.

Separately, North Korea criticized the Nuclear Consultative Group—a joint U.S.-South Korea mechanism on deterrence.

The DPRK called it an “organ of nuclear war” that is allegedly directed against the country.

Pyongyang’s statements are part of the regime’s long-standing policy of expanding its nuclear arsenal and modernizing its military, accompanied by a sharp escalation in rhetoric against the U.S. and its allies in the region.

This was reported by the Yonhap News Agency, citing statements by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a new facility for the production of nuclear materials and set the task of accelerating the expansion of the country’s nuclear capabilities at an “exponential pace.”

North Korea has already conducted tests of cruise missiles using artificial intelligence technologies designed for modern combat operations. According to reports, the tests confirmed the missiles’ readiness for deployment in artillery units near the border with South Korea.

The DPRKhas earned billions in revenue for supporting Russia in the war against Ukraine.
