According to investigators, Tan accepted over 613 million yuan (about 89 million USD) in bribes from 1998 to 2024 and embezzled government funds worth approximately 90 million yuan (13 million USD).

He also unlawfully used confidential information for securities trading and passed this information to third parties, exacerbating the gravity of his offenses.

AVIC is a pivotal company in China’s defense industry, manufacturing military aircraft including the J-20 and J-35 fighter jets. The corporation plays a critical role in advancing China's military capabilities.

Tan's career trajectory, from an entry-level employee to AVIC’s CEO in 2012 and chairman of the board in 2018, reflects rapid advancement. His sentencing underscores the Chinese government’s commitment to enforcing strict anti-corruption measures within the military-industrial complex.

This case illustrates that even top officials in state enterprises are held accountable, signaling ongoing efforts to root out corruption at high levels in China.
