Russia will be represented at the funeral ceremony for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council. He will arrive in Tehran as a special representative of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The Russian delegation will also include representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Orthodox Church, and a group of Sunni and Shia theologians. The funeral ceremony will begin on July 4 in Tehran, and the burial is scheduled for July 9 in Mashhad—Khamenei’s hometown. Mourning events will also take place in the city of Qom, which is sacred to Shiites.
This was announced by Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, citing a leading Iranianmedia outlet.
Ali Khamenei’s funeral will be held in two countries.
As a reminder, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in strikes by the U.S. and Israel, will be buried in the holy city of Mashhad.
As a reminder, several Western news agencies reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s body was found under the rubble of his residence.
The Israeli military published a list of high-ranking Iranian officials who, according to them, were killed in the airstrikes on February 28.
