IRGC urges US voters to remove Trump allies from Congress — Cyprus Mail

In Iraq, US troops were due to leave their last bases on Wednesday, September 30, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps urged US voters to remove President Donald Trump’s allies from Congress. Tehran portrayed the planned withdrawal of US forces from Iraq as a success.

According to Cyprus Mail, the IRGC released a 26-page letter urging Americans to use their political rights to remove the current leaders from power. The document’s authors also opposed US support for Israel and military intervention abroad.

Elections and withdrawal from Iraq

In the letter, the Iranian body urged Americans to make politicians understand that the world has changed. The publication notes that the appeal is unlikely to affect US voters, who may not see the text published by Iranian media. At the same time, congressional elections are due to take place in the United States on November 3, and Democrats could regain control of one or both chambers as a result.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on September 21, 17% of respondents approved of Trump’s actions regarding the cost of living. Strikes on Iran were approved by 34% of those surveyed. During the 2024 campaign, Trump promised to avoid new wars, end existing conflicts and reduce inflation.

Qatar’s mediation

Qatar continues mediation efforts to end the seven-month war between Iran and the United States. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said that Doha is exchanging messages between the sides and trying to find common ground for an agreement. US and Iranian officials separately contacted Qatari mediators on Monday.

Negotiations intensified during the UN General Assembly session in New York last week, but no agreement was reached on opening the Strait of Hormuz. Before the war began, 20% of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passed through it. Iran proposed a plan with a seven-day countdown to opening the strait and a pause in hostilities. Trump rejected the proposal on Saturday, but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington had not officially conveyed a message through mediators rejecting it.
