Latvia opens case over terrorist attack threats — LSM English

Latvia's State Security Service (VDD) opened criminal proceedings on September 9 over threats of terrorist acts against Latvian companies that manufacture and supply weapons to Ukraine. This was reported by LSM English, citing the VDD.

The group's ultimatum

According to the VDD, on September 8 the pro-Kremlin group Global Citizens Against War 1984 published a demand on its website for Latvia to stop supplying Ukraine with weapons and ammunition.

If this demand was not met, the group threatened to carry out terrorist acts against specific Latvian enterprises that manufacture and supply weapons for Ukraine.

In its ultimatum, the group also made similar demands of Poland and Portugal, threatening action against several companies in those countries if the demands were not met.

Detention in Riga

On September 10, as part of the investigation, the VDD detained one person in Riga and carried out procedural actions at the person's place of residence and in a vehicle. The service is analyzing data carriers and other items seized during the search.

The suspect was remanded in custody as a preventive measure. The proceedings were initiated under Part Two of Article 79.6 of Latvia's Criminal Law.
