Lavrov and Rubio held a meeting in Manila
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met on July 23 in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Russian state media reported on the talks, but details of the meeting have not yet been disclosed.
The talks are taking place on the sidelines of events organized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the Philippine International Convention Center.
In announcing the meeting, the Russian foreign minister stated that he intends to ask his American counterpart about the White House’s position on the prospects for resolving the war in Ukraine, particularly in light of recent statements by the U.S. administration.
For its part, Washington also confirmed the U.S. side’s intention to discuss the situation in Ukraine during talks with the Russian minister.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia—the aggressor state—stated that he would meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events in the Philippines.
As a reminder, Russia, the aggressor state, is ready to return to negotiations with Ukraine only after seizing the entire territory of Donetsk Oblast, Bloomberg reports, citing two sources close to the Kremlin.
