Lavrov met with Xi Jinping and described the alliance between Russia and China as a pillar of world stability
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his official visit to China.
The meeting, which took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on April 15, was a key milestone in the Russian minister’s two-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral partnership.
During the talks, Lavrov emphasized the special status of relations between the two countries, calling them the main factor of stability amid current geopolitical turbulence.
He noted that coordination between Moscow and Beijing is critical for the so-called “global majority.”
“Relations between Russia and China play a stabilizing role in world affairs and are becoming increasingly important for the global majority,” the Russian foreign minister said during his meeting with the Chinese leader.
For his part, Xi Jinping called for “closer” and “stronger” strategic cooperation. The Chinese leader emphasized the need to protect shared interests and uphold the unity of the Global South.
He also stressed that the stability of relations between China and Russia is extremely valuable against the backdrop of a changing international landscape.
The parties paid special attention to energy cooperation against the backdrop of the crisis in the Middle East.
Lavrov confirmed Russia’s readiness to increase energy supplies to China to compensate for potential shortages caused by regional conflicts and U.S. attempts to influence global markets.
