Trump will take his son to China, even though he previously criticized Biden for doing so — Reuters
Eric Trump, the son of the U.S. president, will join the official delegation alongside his wife, Lara, during the president’s official visit to Beijing.
This was reported by Reuters.
The trip, scheduled for May 14–15, is expected to be a significant diplomatic event in relations between Washington and China.
The Trump Organization has officially confirmed the family members’ participation in the overseas tour, emphasizing their purely symbolic role.
A company spokeswoman noted that Eric Trump seeks to demonstrate his personal support for his father at this historic moment.
“Eric is deeply proud of his father and the achievements of this administration, and is attending the meeting in person as a son who supports him. He has no business interests in China and does not plan to do business in China,” the statement said.
The presence of the head of state’s son as part of the delegation sparked heated debate in the American media.
Journalists note that the U.S. president has previously repeatedly harshly criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, for involving family members in international trips, pointing to the risks of conflicts of interest.
Although Eric Trump currently runs the family business, the White House denies any connection between the state visit and the commercial interests of the Trump Organization.
Officials emphasize that the U.S. president’s son will not have access to closed-door intergovernmental negotiations and will not influence the formulation of foreign policy.
The main purpose of the president’s trip remains to discuss trade agreements and global security issues with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
According to the protocol service, the presence of family members is intended solely to underscore the high-level nature of the meeting and the spirit of trust in the dialogue between the leaders of the two superpowers.
