Advertisements for Lidl and Iceland fast food have been banned in the UK

In the UK, two major retail companies have been barred from continuing parts of their advertising campaigns due to new restrictions aimed at reducing the popularity of excessively fatty, salty, and sweet foods.

This was reported by The Guardian.

The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which regulates advertising, found that the supermarkets Lidl and Iceland had violated the new rules.

The new rules, which took effect on January 5, prohibit the advertising of products high in fat, salt, or sugar on television before 9 p.m., as well as at any time online.

On April 15, the regulator stated that Lidl and Iceland’s advertising materials promoting baked goods and sweets on Instagram and the Daily Mail website violated the established rules.

Lidl responded by noting that the advertisements in question allegedly fell under an exception as advertisements for its own-brand products.

As a reminder, the Finnish fast-food chain Hesburger is reopening four locations in Kyiv and the Kyiv region in July, with three more to follow in August.
