Myanmar junta leader nominated for president — BBC

Myanmar's parliament has nominated the leader of the military coup, Min Aung Hlaing, as a candidate for president.

This was reported by the BBC.

He is expected to win easily, as his opponents are politicians loyal to him.

The parliamentary session took place following elections in which leading opposition parties were barred from participating.

Many Western countries have previously imposed sanctions on Hlaing due to his role in the coup.

The elections, which the authorities describe as a step toward stabilization, have been criticized as undemocratic due to restrictions on participation and ongoing hostilities.

It is estimated that about 90% of the new parliament’s members are linked to the military leadership.

The election of the president is expected in the near future and is considered a formality.

A ceremony to accept three Russian Mi-38 helicopters took place in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw. The event was attended by the head of the country’s military regime.

Myanmar’s military attacked the massive KK Park call center on the border with Thailand. More than 2,000 people held there against their will were freed, and dozens of Starlink terminals were seized.
