South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi departed for New York, United States, on September 22 to attend the UN General Assembly. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.
South Korean president’s agenda
Lee Jae Myung will spend three days in New York and is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Yonhap reported. He is expected to outline his administration’s vision for peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula and speak about Seoul’s role in responding to global challenges.
The South Korean president has also scheduled a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and intends to hold meetings with US President Donald Trump and other world leaders. After New York, he will travel to Mexico on a state visit and hold talks with President Claudia Sheinbaum on trade, investment and supply chain cooperation.

Delay in Takaichi’s departure
Sanae Takaichi’s flight to New York was delayed by about four hours due to Typhoon Dujuan, which brought heavy rain and strong winds to eastern Japan, Kyodo News reported. She is expected to address the UN General Assembly for the first time since taking office and also meet Trump on Tuesday.
Leaders or senior officials from other Asian countries are also expected at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already departed from Dhaka for New York and is scheduled to speak on Thursday. Pakistan’s delegation is headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is expected to speak on Friday; Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has already arrived in New York. India will be represented by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Indonesia by Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Malaysia at the general debate by Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.
