July 2026 was the hottest month in French history
July 2026 was the hottest month on record in France, where meteorological observations have been conducted since 1900. The average monthly temperature in the country was 24.9°C.
This was reported by the French meteorological service Météo-France, according to “European Truth,” citing Le Figaro. July surpassed the previous temperature records set in August 2003 and July 2006.
At the same time, July 2026 was the third driest July on record in France. The precipitation deficit reached nearly 70%.

As a result, the average soil drought level reached a record high, equivalent to the levels seen in mid-August 2022. This situation has significant consequences for agriculture and contributes to the outbreak of wildfires.
By the end of July, water levels in France’s small rivers and streams had dropped to a historic low for this time of year. The country has experienced three heat waves this summer, and the fight against wildfires continues in the south. In the Gironde department, which has been hardest hit by fires this summer, Ukrainian firefighters are working alongside their French counterparts.
