Lithuania and Poland Will Discuss Streamlining Inspections at Their Shared Border

Representatives of the Lithuanian and Polish border services are scheduled to hold a meeting on July 23 to discuss ways to improve the efficiency of inspections at the shared border and reduce lines at the border crossing.

Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelinas stated that the countries plan to optimize border controls by focusing more on high-risk vehicles and cargo. At the same time, they aim to ensure faster processing for people who regularly cross the border, according to “European Truth,” citing LRT.

“Trucks and vans can be inspected, but when we see two people traveling on business, for vacation, or for other reasons—or perhaps just one person—the inspection could likely be faster,” Katelinas said.

He said he discussed this issue with his Polish counterparts during an informal meeting of European Union justice and interior ministers in Dublin last week. In late March, Poland extended temporary border controls with Lithuania and Germany for another six months.
