Lukashenko wants a "big deal" with Trump after resolving their differences

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, has expressed a desire to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump to sign a major agreement. According to him, Minsk and Washington are currently discussing a number of issues that need to be resolved at a lower level before the leaders’ talks take place.

This was reported by Belta.

Lukashenko emphasized that the future agreement must be based on the interests of both countries, not just the United States. He noted that a personal meeting with Trump is not an end in itself for him, but he would be pleased to shake hands with the American politician in person. The politician stressed that preparations for signing the document are ongoing, but the timeline will depend on how quickly existing disagreements are resolved.

At the same time, the Belarusian dictator continues to maintain close military ties with Russia, which is the main stumbling block in relations with the West. Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the U.S. and the EU have repeatedly called on Minsk to cease supporting Russian aggression and to release political prisoners. Experts view Lukashenko’s statements as yet another attempt to maneuver between geopolitical power centers amid sanctions pressure. So far, Washington has not commented on the likelihood of such agreements being prepared.

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, has stated the need to mobilize citizens to ensure the country’s survival amid uncertainty.

On April 1, Lukashenko convened a meeting following a comprehensive review of the country’s armed forces, attended by approximately 300 high-ranking military officials

Lukashenko called on the Collective Security Treaty Organization to be more diplomatic in its relations with Yerevan.
