Lukashenko called Kim Jong-un a smart guy and denied that he is a dictator

During an official meeting in Minsk with Oleg Kozhemyako, governor of Russia’s Primorsky Krai, Alexander Lukashenko announced the establishment of “good relations” with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The Belarusian politician emphasized that he does not view the North Korean leader as a dictator, according to the state news agency BELTA.

Lukashenko shared his impressions of his recent visit to Pyongyang, noting that Kim Jong-un is a promising young man who is fully committed to developing intergovernmental cooperation. In this regard, Minsk is counting on the Primorsky Krai to act as an intermediary in establishing trilateral trade between Belarus, Primorsky Krai, and North Korea. According to Lukashenko, during the talks in North Korea, the DPRK leader himself spoke positively about Kozhemyak and supported the idea of such economic cooperation. In turn, the Russian governor announced that a road bridge across the Tuman River (Tumangan) and a ferry service are planned to launch in the near future, which will simplify logistics and mutual settlements.

During his spring visit to North Korea, where Lukashenko was greeted with artillery salutes and a military parade, the parties signed a fundamental treaty on friendship and cooperation. Among other things, the Belarusian leader visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where he laid flowers at the mausoleums of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il—according to sources, this gesture was made at the request of Vladimir Putin as a token of gratitude for North Korea’s military support of Russia in the war against Ukraine. Lukashenko concluded that the political systems of Belarus and North Korea are very similar, and therefore both countries should develop their relations and create a multipolar world, without heeding external pressure and sanctions from Western countries.

Lukashenko spoke about Belarusian artificial intelligence.

As a reminder, Belarus has launched exercises to practice the use of nuclear weapons.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is attempting to draw Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine and is considering new scenarios for aggression from its territory.

Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko, held a meeting on military equipment and announced the preparation of a new state armament program for 2026–2030.
