Lvova-Belova, who abducted a boy from Mariupol, has become the head of a children's welfare foundation
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Maria Lvova-Belova as head of the all-Russian organization “Children’s Protection Fund.”
The document, published on April 15, formalizes the status of an official whom the international community officially suspects of abducting Ukrainian minors.
This appointment took place despite the fact that, since March 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for both Putin and Lvova-Belova.
The legal basis for the prosecution is the illegal deportation of thousands of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.
Russian authorities are blatantly ignoring The Hague’s decision, continuing to promote Lvova-Belova up the career ladder.
The Kremlin is attempting to legitimize the forced displacement of children, calling war crimes a “humanitarian mission” and a rescue from hostilities.
The Commissioner herself has repeatedly boasted about her actions, publicly announcing the adoption of a teenager named Philip from occupied Mariupol.
She openly spoke about the methods of psychological pressure she used to alter the stolen boy’s identity.
Russian Ombudsman Lvova-Belova admitted to abducting a Ukrainian child from Mariupol
Recently, Ukraine repatriated eight more children and teenagers from territories temporarily occupied by Russia as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative.
As a reminder, in the temporarily occupied territories, Ukrainians without a Russian passport are treated as “illegal migrants.”
Additionally, in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, Russians are checking students’ phones at schools.
