The Mehhikoorma Lighthouse in Estonia has attracted tourists with its views of the Russian coast
More than 70 people visited the restored Mehhikoorma Lighthouse in southeastern Estonia within the first three hours after its reopening. Tourists are drawn to the view across the narrowest part of Lake Lämmijärv toward the Russian coast, according to ERR News.
The lighthouse reopened to visitors on August 1. It is located less than two kilometers from the opposite Russian shore and is the only lighthouse in Southern Estonia open to visitors. Binoculars have been set up on the observation deck, through which visitors can see the Russian coast and the border zone.

The structure was built in 1938. In July, a major renovation of the stairs and safety measures was completed here. The lighthouse is also a spot for birdwatching and nature photography.
Interest in the site has remained strong even after its opening day: for example, a family of lighthouse enthusiasts from Tallinn stopped by Mehekoorma on their way to Tartu. Toivo Aalia, a board member of the Mekhikoorma Development Society, emphasized that those wishing to visit the lighthouse should call in advance, as it is an active navigational aid and visitors must be accompanied.
