Macron announced the death of a wounded French peacekeeper in Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the death of a French soldier who had been wounded during a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

The soldier in question is Senior Corporal Anicet Girardin, who had previously been evacuated to France after sustaining serious injuries. He was wounded during an attack by Hezbollah militants.

During the same attack on April 18, another French peacekeeper, Florian Montorio, was killed, and several soldiers were wounded.

Girardin became the second French soldier to die as a result of this incident.

In Lebanon, a French peacekeeper was killed during shelling, and three other soldiers were wounded and evacuated. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the incident, attributing responsibility to “Hezbollah” or forces affiliated with it.

Israeli soldiers damaged a religious symbol—a crucifix depicting Jesus Christ—in southern Lebanon. Following an investigation, the IDF deemed the soldier’s actions unacceptable and punished him with arrest. The incident drew public condemnation from Israeli leadership.
