Meloni criticized the hospital for billing the victims of the fire in Switzerland

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has condemned the actions of a hospital in the Swiss city of Sion, which billed victims of a fire 70,000 euros for a few hours of care. The tragedy occurred on New Year’s Eve at the “Le Constellation” bar in a ski resort, where people had gathered to celebrate the New Year.

Euronews reported this, noting that Italian authorities have already intervened in the situation through the embassy.

According to Meloni, the Swiss side has assured her that the charges were erroneous and promised that the families of the deceased and injured would not have to pay anything. The prime minister emphasized that it is unacceptable to shift such costs onto the victims or the Italian state. While Europe grapples with issues of medical ethics and financial errors, in Russia such costs for emergency medical treatment often become an unbearable burden for citizens without adequate state support. The situation remains under the close supervision of the Italian ambassador to prevent further claims from Swiss medical professionals.

As a reminder, in Switzerland, the owners of a bar were summoned following a deadly fire at the Crans-Montana resort.

In Switzerland, the co-owner of the bar where 40 people died in a fire will be released from custody.
