US Treasury issues $1 coin featuring Trump
The US Department of the Treasury has issued $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump. They were minted for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, which is being celebrated this year. This was reported by Channel NewsAsia.
Coin design and sales
One side of the coin features Trump’s image, the inscriptions Liberty and In God We Trust, as well as the dates 1776–2026, marking 250 years of US independence. The other side features a version of the US presidential seal: an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch, covered by a shield bearing the number 250.
The US Mint said that these coins “are also in circulation.” A roll of 25 coins is sold for $61, which is 144% more than their face value. A bag of 100 coins costs $154.50.

Legal questions
According to Channel NewsAsia, the appearance of Trump’s image on a coin with monetary value raises questions about compliance with federal law, which does not allow living presidents to be depicted on US currency. The US Department of the Treasury did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the new coin violates this law.
In May, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the department was working on a plan to issue a $250 banknote featuring Trump. He acknowledged that Congress would have to change the law, which prohibits images of living persons on currency, for such a move. In March, the Treasury also announced that Trump’s signature would soon appear on US paper money.
