Macron called the partnership between France and Britain in supporting Ukraine "crucial"

Following his visit to the United Kingdom, French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of the bilateral partnership in the areas of defense, energy, and support for Ukraine.

During a meeting with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham at DowningStreet, the two leaders focused on the issue of stepping up assistance to Kyiv ahead of winter, a matter that has become particularly urgent due to the intensification of Russian attacks using drones and ballistic missiles against civilian infrastructure.

The leaders of the two countries reaffirmed their intention to deepen bilateral relations and promote the United Kingdom’s further rapprochement with the European Union ahead of a joint summit scheduled for later this year. The talks also addressed issues related to combating the illegal smuggling of migrants across the English Channel and cultural exchange, specifically France’s donation of a tapestry from Bayeux for display at the British Museum.

French President Emmanuel Macron attended a presentation event in London for the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition, which was transported across the English Channel for the first time. King Charles III and Queen Camilla also attended the event. The tapestry, which depicts the Norman Conquest of England in the 11th century, is an embroidered canvas rather than a traditional tapestry.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the attack in Leipzig—for which Germany blamed Russia—yet another manifestation of Moscow’s hybrid war against Europe. He emphasized that such actions pose a threat to European countries.
