White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly, responding to a question about The Wall Street Journal's report on Driscoll's resignation, did not deny the information. She said that he had effectively advanced President Donald Trump's agenda at the US Department of the Army.

The official's career
Driscoll is a US Army veteran who served in Iraq. In 2020, he unsuccessfully ran for Congress and later advised Trump's 2024 election campaign.
According to media reports, Driscoll attended law school with US Vice President J.D. Vance and was reportedly supported within the administration because of those connections. At the same time, publications reported on his conflict with Hegseth.
