Ghanaian Minister Samuel Nartey George to chair AU ICT committee
Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has been unanimously approved as the next chair of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Communication and Information and Communication Technologies. MyJoyOnline reports.
Two-year term
George is expected to begin his two-year term in office in October 2026. According to the publication, this will place Ghana at the center of continental discussions on digital transformation, telecommunications and technology policy.
On September 7, 2026, the minister spoke at the Government Accountability Series event at Jubilee House in Accra. He said that Ghana’s digital agenda is increasingly being recognized beyond the country’s borders.

International cooperation
George also said that Ghana participates in the Africa Network of Cybersecurity Authorities, the Arab Region Roundtable, and cooperates with the Committee of the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime.
In addition, the 15th African Internet Governance Forum is scheduled to take place in Accra in November. According to the minister, the direction of the country’s digital development is clear and the results are measurable.
