"The mission to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is ready," says the French Foreign Minister
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barro stated that a special international mission to ensure the safety of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is, in fact, ready for immediate deployment.
This statement came against the backdrop of the recent signing of a major peace agreement between the United States and Iran.
Organized as a joint initiative by Paris and London, the security mission will be able to begin its official work as soon as all the necessary political and technical conditions are in place.
The French side emphasizes the importance of ensuring stable shipping in one of the world’s most vital maritime trade routes.
According to the government official, the presence of European forces will serve exclusively as a deterrent and stabilizing force to prevent new crises.
The mission will be launched based on clearly defined criteria that will guarantee its neutrality and effectiveness. Paris seeks to avoid any escalation and will act exclusively within the framework of international law to protect commercial vessels.
“It is ready for very rapid deployment—but under specific circumstances: provided the situation has calmed down, based on a purely ‘defensive’ logic, and regardless of the parties to the conflict,” said Jean-Noël Barro.
European partners plan to act independently of the direct signatories to the peace treaty in order to maintain the objectivity and balance of their actions.
The French and British navies have already agreed on preliminary plans for coordination and patrolling the waters.
The head of the French Foreign Ministry announced this during an appearance on Franceinfo.
