An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck Sumatra, Indonesia
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra late Saturday. This was reported by NDTV World, which published a report from Agence France-Presse citing the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). According to the publication, this was the second powerful earthquake to strike Indonesia in a single day.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Pematangsiantar area—approximately 126 kilometers southeast of Medan. According to the USGS, the focus was at a depth of 183 kilometers. The quake occurred on the western Indonesian island of Sumatra.

No tsunami warning was issued. As noted by NDTV World, a few hours earlier, another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck Indonesia, killing 47 people.
