Woman dies from stab wounds near Trikomo in Cyprus
In the village of Ayios Yorghios near Trikomo in Cyprus, 61-year-old Saliha Ozkol died from stab wounds on the morning of September 7. According to Cyprus Mail, the woman’s 71-year-old ex-husband attacked her after an argument.
Attack and hospitalization
The newspaper Yeniduzen reported that Ozkol died at the scene as a result of stab wounds. According to Cyprus Mail, her ex-husband then returned to his home in Famagusta and seriously injured himself. He was taken to Famagusta State Hospital on Salamis Road.
Previous restraining orders
The Bugun Kibris website reported on the same day that Ozkol was subjected to violence by her then-husband in 2024 and lost consciousness after the attack. On July 21 last year, he appeared before the Turkish Cypriot Famagusta District Court on charges of unlawful entry, assault, unlawful possession of a knife, battery, and breaching a restraining order obtained by Ozkol.

On August 15 last year, the Turkish Cypriot Trikomo Family Court issued a new order. The man was banned from approaching Ozkol within 200 metres and from contacting her in writing, verbally, by telephone, text messages, email, or social media. As Cyprus Mail reports, he was also sentenced to three months in prison in the assault case.
Opposition reaction
The women’s wing of the opposition Republican Turkish Party, CTP, said it would hold a protest on Tuesday outside the office of Unal Ustel, whose title Cyprus Mail places in quotation marks as “prime minister.” The party called for stronger measures to prevent violence against women and demanded the government’s resignation. The CTP also said there was no effective comprehensive state mechanism in the northern part of Cyprus to prevent violence, protect women at risk, and enable early intervention.
