Estonian National Library completes relocation of 3.4 million items
The National Library of Estonia has completed returning 3.4 million items from its collections to storage facilities in the building on Tõnismägi. These include books, music and art collections, periodicals, sheet music, maps and other printed materials.
More than 62,000 boxes
As ERR News reports, library staff and 60 volunteers unpacked more than 62,000 cardboard boxes. The materials were placed in 21 storage facilities, while works from the art collection were moved to a separate 22nd storage facility.
Kaire Lass, chief curator of the National Library of Estonia, said that unpacking the cultural heritage collections took 158 days.

Rare books were placed last
The rarest books were the last to be placed on the shelves. This collection comprises nearly 40,000 books, with the oldest dating back to the late 15th century.
The next stage will be placing the open-access collections on shelves. At the same time, the library is preparing new services and fitting out the restored 45,000-square-metre building. The National Library of Estonia is scheduled to reopen on May 28, 2027.
