The interim peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran has brought relations between Washington and Tel Aviv to a critical juncture due to the Israeli leadership’s opposition to these arrangements. In private conversations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the actions of the Donald Trump administration as “horrific” for national security and has emphasized his deep disappointment

Washington’s plan calls for a 60-day negotiation period to finalize the agreements and lift the naval blockade, which Israel perceives as “tying its hands” in the face of Iran’s nuclear and missile threats.

The situation has escalated following public disputes, during which Trump demanded an end to strikes on Beirut, while Netanyahu has stated that troops will remain in buffer zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza for an indefinite period. This divergence of interests undermines the Israeli prime minister’s political image ahead of the elections, and public confidence in Trump regarding the priority of Israel’s security has fallen from 64% in March to 41% in June. Despite the U.S. push for de-escalation, Israeli ministers Israel Katz and Eli Cohen insist they are ready to act independently and launch retaliatory strikes. Experts suggest that Netanyahu is hoping for the collapse of final agreements so that military operations can resume in 60 or 90 days.

This is reported by Reuters.

The U.S. and Iran are preparing to sign a peace agreement, which, according to preliminary data, is scheduled to take place on June 19 in Geneva. If the agreement is indeed finalized, it could be one of the most significant diplomatic moves in recent years.
