Nigeria and China agree to deepen tourism cooperation
The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) and the China Tourism Academy have agreed to deepen cooperation to attract more Chinese tourists to Nigeria. The agreements were reached during a meeting of representatives of the institutions in Beijing, Premium Times Nigeria reports, citing an NTDA statement.
Programme for the Chinese market
NTDA Director-General Ola Awakan proposed introducing a structured China-Nigeria tourism market development programme. According to him, it should help better understand the trends and preferences of Chinese travellers.
Awakan said such data would enable Nigeria to create tourism products and marketing strategies tailored to the Chinese market, as well as strengthen the country’s competitiveness in global tourism. He also advocated expanding technical cooperation and capacity-building programmes in tourism data and research, destination development, standards and institutions.

Tourism centre in China
China Tourism Academy President Dai Bin described Nigeria as a country with rich cultural and historical resources and stated the academy’s readiness to establish a strategic partnership with the NTDA. He stressed the need to improve Nigeria’s visibility among Chinese tourists and tour operators.
The China Tourism Academy also expressed readiness to jointly establish a Nigerian International Tourism Promotion Centre in China with the NTDA. The centre is expected to promote Nigerian tourism destinations and products, contribute to a better understanding of the Chinese market, and attract tourists from China.
The meeting took place as part of Ola Awakan’s working visit to China. The trip programme also included his participation in a seminar on climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals for developing countries, conducted by China’s Ministry of Commerce.
