Germany is preparing for a possible trade war with China
The German government is analyzing vulnerabilities in the Chinese economy to prepare for a possible escalation in trade relations between the European Union and China. Officials are examining trade flows, supply chains, and Beijing’s dependence on European technology.
Berlin is paying particular attention to sectors where China has not yet been able to fully replace European innovations. Specifically, this includes equipment for semiconductor production, specialized technologies, and industrial know-how.
Among the companies considered potentially important to China are Trumpf, Carl Zeiss, Siltronic, Aixtron, and SUSS MicroTec, whose products are used in the manufacture of modern microchips.
Germany is also assessing the possibility of using the maintenance and repair of European equipment already installed in China as a lever of influence. Particular attention is being paid to China’s dependence on advanced medical technologies.
Officials in Berlin emphasize that these measures are not intended to prepare for a confrontation but are aimed at strengthening the negotiating positions of Germany and the EU in the event of economic pressure from China.
