Britain's new prime minister won't bring his dog to Downing Street because of Larry the cat
The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has decided not to bring his dog, Axel, to the Downing Street residence so as not to disturb the famous cat Larry, who has lived in the government building for many years.
Larry moved to Downing Street in 2011 after being adopted from a shelter. He officially holds the position of Chief Mouser to the Cabinet and has become one of the British government’s most famous “employees.”
During his tenure, Larry has outlived six prime ministers—David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and Keir Starmer. The cat regularly appears at official events, greets guests at the residence, and has become a true symbol of Downing Street.
Axel, a Bichon Frise-Poodle mix, will remain in northern England so as not to cause stress for the famous cat.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in the United Kingdom, where he will hold a series of meetings with British leaders and Ukrainian military officials.
As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with the new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, on July 27.
