A powerful tornado in Germany damaged about 50 homes
A tornado swept through northern Germany on Sunday evening, causing significant damage to local buildings. The storm damaged about 50 homes.
Strong winds damaged roofs and facades, and debris and fallen trees may have landed in residential areas. Local authorities are assessing the damage caused by the storm.
Several areas of the state of Schleswig-Holstein were affected by the storm on the evening of July 26, primarily the town of Glückstadt and surrounding communities.
The tornado, which struck around 7 p.m., caused particularly severe damage in the industrial zone; residential buildings were also affected—about 50 in total. In Glückstadt alone, approximately 25 buildings were damaged.
The wind tore off sections of roofs from porches, garages, and garden gazebos. The fire and rescue service reports that in some cases, the torn-off structures were carried as far as 100 meters away. At the same time, all the affected homes remain habitable.
The railway’s overhead cable network was also damaged, forcing trains to be rerouted.
