Hungary's new Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, is preparing a visit to Poland
Hungary’s newly appointed Prime Minister Péter Magyar is set to travel to Poland next week, where he will hold meetings with Polish leaders and representatives of the political elite. The visit is seen as a sign of possible changes in Budapest’s foreign policy, particularly regarding Ukraine and Russia. This was reported by Rmf24.
Hungary’s newly appointed Prime Minister Péter Magyar will make an official visit to Poland next week, where he is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, President Karol Nawrocki, and a series of public meetings in various cities across the country.
Polish government spokesperson Adam Szlapka announced this on Rmf24, specifying that the trip will likely take place on Wednesday, May 20. “It will likely be next week, on Wednesday,” Szlapka said, commenting on the date of the Hungarian prime minister’s possible visit.
According to him, the new Hungarian government’s first steps are already drawing the attention of European partners, as they may signal a shift in Budapest’s foreign policy approaches. “The Hungarian government’s initial decisions indicate that a policy shift is underway—both regarding Ukraine and in terms of its approach to Russia and European issues,” noted the Polish government spokesperson.
As part of his visit, Magyar also plans to visit Kraków and Gdańsk. In Warsaw, he is scheduled to meet with Tusk and Nawrocki, and in Gdańsk—with former Polish President and legendary Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa.
Official details of the agenda have not yet been disclosed, but the visit itself is seen as the new Hungarian government’s first significant foreign policy move.
