The UAE has accused Iran of attacking a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has reported an attack by Iran on a tanker belonging to the state-owned oil company ADNOC as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to authorities, two drones were used in the attack, and Abu Dhabi has strongly condemned Tehran’s actions.

This is stated in a statement by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on social media platform X.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this attack is a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which reaffirms the importance of freedom of navigation and rejects attacks on commercial vessels or the obstruction of international maritime routes.

It is noted that there are no reports of casualties resulting from the attack on the tanker.

“Attacks on commercial shipping and the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail are acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and pose a direct threat to the stability of the region, its peoples, and global energy security,” the UAE’s foreign ministry emphasized.

The UAE also called on Iran to cease these unprovoked attacks, ensure compliance with the ceasefire, and facilitate the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to protect regional security and support the stability of the global economy and trade.

According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the incident occurred 78 nautical miles north of Fujairah (UAE).

“It is reported that the tanker was struck by unknown projectiles. It is noted that the crew is alive and no environmental impact has been recorded,” the UKMTO warning states, without disclosing the name of the vessel or other details of the incident.

The UAE joins OPEC: a tectonic shift for the oil market.

The UAE has fully resumedair service following the threat of attacks from Iran.

Earlier, the UAE banned its citizens from traveling to three countries.

Prior to this, Israel transferred modern air defense systems to the United Arab Emirates to strengthen protection against missile and drone attacks from Iran.

The UAE government has also begun preliminary consultations with the United States regarding the provision of emergency financial aid.
